Welcome!

This site explores my use of Ubuntu, including any tips/tricks I might discover.

This site isn't intended to replace other blogs and wikis to do with Ubuntu. Any other source of information out there will probably have a lot more information — too much information, in fact. This site is intended to give some in-depth knowledge on certain aspects of the operating system, from layman to layman.

If you're trying to figure out how to do something in Ubuntu, come here first. If there's information on it, hopefully it will be explained better than it would on some of the other Ubuntu sites out there. If it's not explained — and there's a good chance it won't be — you can start searching the other spots.

State of Affairs

  • I've installed Ubuntu 8.04 LTS1 — Hardy Heron — so some parts of the site will start to reflect these changes. But I haven't got far yet.

Note that when I first installed Hardy, I simply upgraded from Gutsy. It worked fine, except that, for some strange reason, the actual Linux kernel wasn't updated. I've since blown away Ubuntu and started from scratch, and it works much better.

Not that there were that many issues with the old version, but there were some minor inconveniences. Like having no sound.

  • I've been working — on and off, but mostly off — on some pages related to using the command line. It's still a long way from being finished.
